Living and working in Gorinchem with pleasure

Gorinchem is the place where I live, work and truly feel at home. Although I am not originally a “Bliek” by birth, I have lived here since a young age. As a result, I feel deeply connected to the city. Together with my family and our pets, we happily live in a characteristic 1930s house in Gorinchem.

In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors. I regularly walk along the city walls, go out with the dog and take my camera with me into the city. The fortress, the historic streets and places such as Buiten de Waterpoort and the lively River Merwede continue to inspire me.

For many years, I have been actively involved in the social life of Gorinchem. This involvement began when my children were born, initially through the parents’ council at their primary school. Later, when my son started playing football, it felt natural to join a local club. Before long, I was asked to take on a role within the club as well. After completing a youth coaching course, I spent several evenings a week on the field as a trainer; a role I fulfilled with great enjoyment for seven years. Today, I remain involved as a member of the sponsorship committee.

For several years now, I have also been working in Gorinchem, within the transport and logistics sector. In my role, I am responsible for quality management, occupational health and safety, and environmental policy. This involves frequent contact with the municipality and other local authorities. I place great value on building strong partnerships with organizations such as the police and fire brigade, who also regularly use our site for training exercises.

The organization I work for plays an important logistical role within the region and already supports many local businesses through container transport and logistics services. By further increasing our visibility, we aim to support even more companies in Gorinchem and the surrounding area.

In addition, we regularly welcome schools through initiatives such as iLab and collaborate with technical education programs, including Fortes Technasium, on practice-oriented projects. In this way, we introduce young people to the logistics sector and hope to inspire them to pursue a future within Logistiek Centrum Gorinchem.

What appeals to me most is the collaboration with local businesses and institutions. Working in the city, being closely involved with the community and then cycling home at the end of the day: that, to me, is Gorinchem!
